@Castopod I like the general idea of portable identities. However reading https://nostr.com/comparisons/mastodon I am not at all clear how #nostr is better.
E.g. the claim that there is no incentive to run #mastodon servers, or them being run my amateurs. So where is the incentive to run nostr backends instead and why would the pros want to run them?

@spaetz I wouldn't say that Nostr is better. It is different.
Not being tied to a server is a really cool feature.
Being able to post content from any website is awesome.
As an app, not having to deal with user accounts is so cool.
Have a look at NIP-05 and NIP-07, IMHO they are enough to make Nostr worth of interest.
On top of that, NIP-01 makes it super easy to post a message.

@Castopod Why not postbone til more people know about it etc.? The general idea sounds good, though.
Of course it's not perfect, and this particular example is made by problematic people so maybe there's some progress to be made
One cool thing about Nostr: your identity does not rely on a specific server as it does on Mastodon/ActivityPub, but only on your private key.
So you could go on any server (a Castopod instance for example), and there like, share or comment any content, using the local Nostr relay, without having to go back and forth to your home server as you have to do on Mastodon.
With Nostr, home is everywhere.
