“Mastodon makes sense for Interledger as it has been built to address a number of similar concerns around decentralisation and the exploitation of users and their data that members of the Interledger Community have expressed over the years.

I did see that Whisper was available as a free software package to run locally, and from time to time I tried to look into this and to get it working. But I never had any luck.
Until yesterday, when I read a blogpost from @Castopod. Finally someone who explained it in terms that even I could understand. https://blog.castopod.org/transcribe-your-podcast-for-free-using-only-a-laptop-and-whisper/
After following instructions and downloading at least 10 GB of data, I gave it a try, and it worked! It worked amazingly!
A big thank you and shout out to the team at @Castopod for migrating my podcast from self-hosted to Castopod.com. Seamless transition and the RSS feed didn’t even change!
shout out to @Castopod - such an amazing tool
"Self-host your podcasts with ease, keep control over what you create and talk to your audience without any middleman. "
@DrTCombs The neat thing is that any website that let's you upload audio files and creates an rss feed will do. Including Mastodon or WordPress. But there are also specific podcasting services, like podcast plugins for WordPress, or @Castopod.
And as someone else mentioned, Audacity works fine for editing, and is free both as in beer and as in freedom :)
PodcastData has just updated! ♻️
Now counting 4,205,339 podcasts and 98,121,919 episodes thanks to PodcastIndex. Still available for free. For every month. Since the year 2000! 📈 #opendata #opensource #rawgraphs

@jkerrison You can try https://castopod.com/ !

@forteller The issue is that most platform don't: Apple podcast supports only mp3 and m4a, Spotify supports only mp3.
Eventually the alternateEnclosure tag should fix that.
Castopod has a Wikipedia page in French and Russian.
Feel free to translate it in your own language!

@gmate8 But at least Bard does not invent lies. (ChatGPT does.)
@diarra Unfortunately, no.
MP3 is still the only format recognized everywhere.
(Spotify won't even accept m4a…)
We will probably support the alternateEnclosure very soon so that you offer “real” audio codecs to your audience…
