Two years ago at FOSDEM, I gave a talk titled “How Podcasting 2.0 Will Save the Open Internet”.
I’ll be honest—it was partly a bluff.
But it turns out I was right.
Today, we are here to celebrate the victory of open standards in podcasting.

Wouldn’t it be awesome if podcast fans could support their favorite shows without managing a bajillion subscriptions?

Wouldn’t it be awesome if federated social networks had a federated, global payment network of regulated financial institutions for micropayments?

In 2020, Podcasting 2.0 introduced the transcript tag after Apple had declined any changes for 15 years.

However, in 2024, Apple finally adopted the Podcasting 2.0 transcript tag for Apple Podcasts.

Beyond being a commendable and fair move by Apple, this marks a significant victory for open ecosystems, for podcasting as a whole, and for the Podcasting 2.0 initiative.

It is our duty to celebrate this achievement, and it is my honor to do so at FOSDEM 2025.
